Five Tips for Working Through your Weight Loss Plateau

When you hit a weight loss plateau (trust me, at some stage you will) it can be hard to burst through and start seeing progress again.

Scary, right?

Well, don’t fear! Here are my top five tips to push through and say no to plateaus.

1. Track your calories.
Calorie counting isn’t for everyone but it’s a surefire way to get results. There are a number of helpful apps out there to help you with this.

2. Switch up your training.
The body reacts well to change. Could you up the volume, frequency or intensity of your training?

3. Monitor your progress.
Fat loss doesn’t always mean weight loss. The scales won’t always go down but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t making progress. Try taking measurements, checking your body fat percentage, taking photos or simply looking at the way your clothes fit.

4. Be realistic.
Don’t set yourself up for failure. Exercise, low calories, macro manipulation etc, all play a role in body composition but should rarely be used all at once. Aside from being near impossible to balance for the average person, your body will very quickly adapt and once these methods have been used up, progress will slow down.

5. Be patient.
The fat loss you experience in the first couple of months happens a lot faster than the progress made once body fat has been lowered. Don’t expect weight to drop off as quickly as it did from the outset. Don’t be discouraged, keep working!
